Leading with Purpose: The Women of the CAP Foundation Driving Change in Healthcare

March is Women’s History Month, and while it’s a time to reflect on the incredible contributions of women throughout history, at the CAP Foundation, we don’t just celebrate women- we are women. Our entire staff is female-led, and we take pride in the work we do, from advancing women’s health through See, Test & Treat to supporting pathologists worldwide. And yet, despite the critical role women play in nonprofits, the statistics still tell a frustratingly familiar story.

Women make up 75% of the nonprofit workforce, yet only 22% hold executive roles. And let’s not even talk about the funding gap-because we’d be here all day. Cue: “Run the World?” by Beyonce.

As the Executive Director of the CAP Foundation, as a woman who attended an all-women’s high school and college, and as a single mother raising my daughter, Celeste, I know firsthand the power of women and our allies’ supporting women. I witness it daily in the incredible team I work alongside-strong, smart, compassionate women who drive the CAP Foundation’s mission forward. We don’t just work in philanthropy- we lead it. And we do so with passion, empathy, and an energy to ensure that women, particularly those who face barriers to healthcare, get the services they need.

At the CAP Foundation, our work is deeply rooted in breaking down barriers. Our flagship program, See, Test & Treat, provides free, life-saving cancer screening to women who might not otherwise have access to care. It’s work that changes lives- something I was reminded of when I spent more than an hour on the phone with a patient who wanted to share her story of how this program saved her life. That moment solidified why I do what I do, why we all do what we do.

And I don’t do it alone. Let me introduce you to the powerhouse women of the CAP Foundation. Check out the video below of our little helper and cheerleader, Celeste.

Joanna Cermak is our storytelling guru, managing communications and donor relations. She’s all about making sure our supporters see the real impact of their generosity. Her go-to advice? Never be afraid to take up space. She believes in making women’s health a priority and ensuring that leadership reflects those it serves.

Ranjana Paintal keeps See, Test & Treat running, brining critical cancer screenings to women who might otherwise go without. If she could sit down with anyone from history, it would be one of her grandmothers—women who lived through hardship and built strong families. She sees firsthand how donor support changes lives, and she believes deeply in the power of asking the right questions.

Ranya Gabb makes sure our operations are seamless. She’s inspired by Queen Rania of Jordan and her advocacy for women’s rights and education. Having experienced gaps in healthcare access herself, she knows the importance of programs like See, Test & Treat and is committed to making sure more women get the care they need.

Julia Rankenburg is our grant and awards expert, a meticulous project manager with a background in medical technology. She has been instrumental in expanding See, Test & Treat and our global initiatives ensuring that we maximize our impact. She’s the definition of organized, driven, and dedicated to women’s health.

This Women’s History Month, let’s go beyond celebration- let’s take action. Supporting women-led initiatives means more women receive life-saving cancer screenings, more resources reach those who need them, and more female leaders can drive meaningful change.

Join us. Donate. Share our story. And continue to uplift the women making a difference every day. Because when we invest in women, we invest in a healthier, more equitable future for everyone.

With gratitude,
Maya Ogden
