The Anchor Thread: Ranya’s Story
Last year, we celebrated how your support links us together. Like a friendship bracelet, each gift forming a chain of impact. This year, we’re going deeper by highlighting the people, the threads, who make it all possible.
Meet Ranya Gabb, our Operations Manager. She’s the one who keeps the day-to-day moving smoothly, connecting people, ideas, and opportunities so the CAP Foundation can make a real difference.
Q: Tell us a little about yourself!
Ranya: I was born in Detroit but grew up in Illinois, so I have Midwest roots with a little Detroit resilience mixed in. I love traveling, making memories with family and friends, and catching up on reality TV. A fun fact most people don’t know? I have a fraternal twin sister, which basically means I’ve had a built-in best friend my entire life!
Q: What hobbies or interests energize you outside of work?
Ranya: Traveling really energizes me especially exploring new cities, trying new foods, and experiencing different cultures. I’m also a big Disney fan. Whether it’s visiting the parks or going on a cruise, I love the storytelling and the reminder that a little magic and imagination can go a long way.
Q: If the Foundation were a bracelet, what kind of thread would you be?
Ranya: I’d be the steady, dependable thread that keeps everything connected and strong. Maybe not the flashiest piece, but the one that holds it all together.
Q: What’s one moment at the Foundation that made you smile or feel proud?
Ranya: One small moment that stands out is seeing the direct impact of a donor’s generosity at the CAP Annual Meeting. When you can connect a gift to the real difference it makes, it’s a powerful reminder of why the work matters.
Q: What’s your unofficial “superpower” at the Foundation?
Ranya: Connecting the dots between people, ideas, and opportunities. I love helping things come together in a way that builds momentum.
Q: How do you see the Foundation connecting people: donors, residents, patients?
Ranya: The Foundation acts as a bridge, bringing generosity and need together. It creates meaningful opportunities for people to be part of something bigger than themselves.
Q:What does “connection” mean to you?
Ranya: Connection is trust, shared purpose, and genuine relationships. It’s more than transactions. It’s about understanding what matters to people and aligning that with meaningful impact.
Q: How do your day-to-day contributions tie into the bigger picture?
Ranya: The small, consistent efforts like communication, organization, and follow-through help build the strong foundation that allows everything else to succeed.
Q: How do you hope the Foundation’s connections grow this year?
Ranya: I hope we continue deepening relationships while welcoming new people into our story and expanding our reach, all while staying grounded in authentic connection.
Q: If the Foundation had a theme song, what would it be?
Ranya: “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. Hopeful, forward-looking, perfect for growth and new chapters.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add?
Ranya: I’m grateful to be part of a team that leads with heart. The connections we help create every day truly matter, and being part of that is something I’m proud of.
🎧 Now Playing: Connected: The Foundation Playlist
As part of this campaign, we’re building a CAP Foundation playlist featuring songs chosen by our staff, board, awardees and donors. As the campaign unfolds, so will the playlist, with new songs added along the way. Listen along and hear the soundtrack behind the threads that hold us together.
