Episode #1: Pathology for Change: Global Solutions
In this episode we dive into one of the most pressing challenges in global healthcare: the diagnostic gap. Too often, patients, especially in low- and middle-resource countries, face delays or lack access to essential testing. Our guests, three internationally recognized pathologists, explore why pathology is at the heart of patient care, the barriers faced by the profession, and the urgent need for visibility and advocacy.
The conversation highlights how technology, including AI, can transform diagnostics, and why engaging patients in this dialogue is critical for change. Together, our guests call on organizations like the CAP Foundation to spearhead solutions that close diagnostic gaps and strengthen the role of pathologists worldwide.
Featured Guests:
- Dr. Kenneth Fleming – Senior pathologist and former head of the Medical Sciences Division at Oxford. He chaired the Lancet Commission on Diagnostics, which informed a landmark World Health Assembly resolution on access to testing.
- Dr. Henry Tazelaar – Geraldine Zeiler Colby Professor of Cytopathology and former Chair of Pathology at Mayo Clinic Arizona. A leading expert in heart and lung pathology, worldwide educator and current President of the International Academy of Pathology.
