Bonus Episode | Mindful Minutes: Why Helping Others Helps You
The CAP Foundation is proud to share another bonus episode of Mindful Minutes, led by high school volunteer Elsa. In this episode, Elsa explores how service can shape mental health, resilience, and personal identity. She is joined by Magdalena Alioto Grace, a first-year medical student at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, who shares her journey from sexual assault advocacy to pursuing a career in impact-driven healthcare; and reflects on how serving others has strengthened her empathy, patience, and self-awareness.
Featured Guest:
Magdalena Alioto Grace is a first-year medical student at Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine with a strong interest in women’s health, oncology, and community-centered care. She brings a thoughtful perspective on how disease biology intersects with the social and structural factors that shape health outcomes. She graduated from Georgetown University in 2023, where she served on the Sexual Assault Response and Prevention (SARP) team within Health Education Services. During that time, she led the university’s bystander intervention training program, helping expand access to critical resources for survivors both on campus and in the surrounding community.
After graduation, she worked in New York City as an advocate for survivors of sexual assault and interpersonal violence through Mount Sinai’s Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention (SAVI) program, supporting patients in emergency department settings. She also conducted research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in gynecologic oncology, focusing on fertility-sparing surgical approaches for cervical cancer.
Her passion for women’s health and community-centered care ultimately led her to connect with the CAP Foundation’s See, Test & Treat initiative, which provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings and other essential services to underserved communities.
