As Breast Cancer Awareness Month brings renewed attention to early detection, the CAP Foundation is recognizing a physician whose leadership is helping more women overcome barriers to essential cancer screenings and care.

Jeremy Hart, MD,FCAP is this year’s recipient of the Herbek Humanitarian Award, recognizing his exceptional service to the CAP Foundation’s See, Test & Treat® program.

Dr. Hart has been a core part of See, Test & Treat at St. Elizabeth since 2022. After learning about the program through his involvement with the College of American Pathologists, he introduced it to St. Elizabeth’s gynecologic oncology disease management team, which was seeking new ways to increase cervical cancer screening throughout the region. Since then, Dr. Hart has helped lead the program through events in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

His involvement goes far beyond directing its laboratory services. He participates in community outreach, meets with local leaders, supports patient recruitment, raises awareness throughout the health system, and encourages others to get involved.

Dr. Hart has also helped expand the program’s reach and long-term impact. He identified Faith Clinic Health Network as a new community-based host site, bringing See, Test & Treat directly to an urban area while connecting patients with an ongoing source of comprehensive care. After recognizing the clinic’s need for laboratory volunteers and operational guidance, he recruited team members to support its opening.

He is also championing innovative ways to make cervical cancer screening more accessible. Dr. Hart has educated colleagues about self-collected HPV testing and is exploring how it could be piloted through See, Test & Treat to reach even more medically underserved patients.

Beyond the program, he teaches and mentors medical students, participates in community health fairs, and continually seeks new partnerships that can improve access to care.

Those who work alongside Dr. Hart describe him as “a true friend, mentor and champion for our community and this program.”

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, his story reminds us that awareness must be paired with action. Through his compassion, leadership, and commitment to breaking down barriers to care, Dr. Hart embodies the spirit of the Herbek Humanitarian Award and the mission of See, Test & Treat.
