The Elastic Thread: Ranjana’s Story

connection campaign-Ranjana

Last year, we celebrated how your support links us together, like a friendship bracelet, each gift forming a chain of impact. This year, we’re going a step deeper by highlighting the people, the threads, who make those connections possible.

Meet Ranjana Paintal, Program Manager for See, Test & Treat®. Through her work leading the Foundation’s flagship program, she connects pathologists, healthcare organizations, community partners, and patients, helping transform collaboration into lifesaving care. Her ability to see multiple perspectives and bring people together ensures that every connection strengthens the impact of See, Test & Treat and the communities it serves.

Q: What’s a hobby or interest you have outside of work that energizes you?
Ranjana: I love stories, whether they are told through books, conversations, comedy routines, movies, music or dance. Any experience that provides me with an interesting narrative and perspective to think about energizes me.

Q: If the Foundation were a bracelet, what kind of thread would you be?
Ranjana: Elastic- forever stretching and shrinking to fit the situation.

Q: Share one small moment at the Foundation that made you smile or feel proud.
Ranjana: I can’t think of just one- I will say that I am always proud about how our small but mighty team cuts through the noise with humor, out of the box thinking, and positive energy to make the Foundation as impactful as possible.

Q: What’s your unofficial “superpower” at the Foundation?
Ranjana: I don’t know if I have a superpower, but I think if I did, my superpower would be my desire to see multiple perspectives on issues.

Q: How do you see the Foundation connecting people — whether donors, residents, or patients?
Ranjana: I like to think that the program I manage, See, Test & Treat, is the ultimate way to connect players within the public health system. Patients are connected to services that allow them to access lifesaving health care screenings, social services and follow up care if needed. The host institution benefits from stronger inter- and intra- departmental connections and stronger connection to the community . Pathologists, and pathology residents establish stronger connections their colleagues, their institution’s administration, to patients, and to community leaders. See, Test & Treat is exploding with connections everywhere!

Q: How do your day-to-day contributions tie into the bigger picture?
Ranjana: Since See, Test & Treat is the Foundation’s flagship program, it holds a special place in the heart of the Foundation. We have been hard at work to make the program more efficient, more effective, and more impactful. One of my main roles over the last couple of years is to garner information from various sources, and utilize it to lead See, Test & Treat program development efforts. We just launched See, Test & Treat V2.0, which we anticipate will enable our grantees to reach more medically underserved patients. We are excited to see what the future holds!

Q: How do you hope the Foundation’s connections grow in the coming year?
Ranjana: While it is sometimes overwhelming, we are so lucky to be living during this era of rapid scientific and technological growth! I hope that the Foundation is able to make the connections that would enable pathologists to better navigate this changing landscape and leverage these new developments to build a stronger, more patient centered healthcare system.

Q: If the Foundation had a theme song, what would it be?
Ranjana: Right Here Right Now by Jesus Jones or Drive by Incubus

Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Ranjana: Go, team!
